SUNY Upstate Medical University, United States
I direct the Center for Education and Training Programs within the SUNY Upstate Medical University Global Health Institute and hold a faculty appointment in the Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine. I am responsible for developing and administrating global health educational initiatives and bilateral training programs for students, faculty, and trainees locally and globally. I have a decade of experience planning and executing academic and scientific conferences on global health and infectious disease-related topics, specifically dengue, COVID-19, and tick-borne diseases. I am currently earning my doctorate in Curriculum, Instruction, and the Science of Learning at the University at Buffalo. My doctorate focuses on the practical application and educational benefits of socio-cultural and collaborative learning to promote global health. Recently, I developed curriculum for and became the Concentration Director of the new Global Health and Translational Science concentration in the Upstate MPH program. My other research interests include the motivations of students pursuing experiences in global health, global health education, collaborative online education, infectious disease epidemiology, and refugee health.
“Collaborative Online International Learning expands global health education beyond borders by enabling learners to engage directly with diverse perspectives, health systems, and lived experiences. Through sustained, equitable collaboration, COIL strengthens cultural humility, systems thinking, and shared problem‑solving—competencies essential for addressing complex global health challenges.”
