With a SUNY COIL Global Network Membership, your institution is joining a world-wide community of practice dedicated to Collaborative Online International Learning and the benefits it brings to higher education. With 130+ participating institutions, dozens of interactive professional development workshops, and a wide variety of networking opportunities, the SUNY COIL Center is the blue-chip standard of this modality and stands on the forefront of virtual exchange.

SUNY COIL Global Network members gain access to the SUNY COIL listserv, quarterly partnering bulletins and fairs, and receive hands-on strategy for partner matching and institutional implementation. Members are invited to participate in monthly community webinars focused on networking and virtual exchange.

Global Network Members receive reduced pricing for all professional development workshops, custom workshops, and consulting. Members are invited to participate in monthly coordinator meetings, troubleshooting clinics, and info sessions focused on supporting your institution’s COIL initiatives. You will also gain access to members-only resources such as sample syllabi and collaboration examples.

SUNY COIL Global Network members are provided with the tools they need to get their COIL courses off the ground. Once you have found an international partner, enroll in our COIL Design workshop to develop a blueprint of your COIL Collaboration, ready for implementation. Members also gain opportunities for scholarly research, presentations, and journal articles.

Membership Rates & Benefits

Four times a year, we distribute a form for COIL instructors and coordinators to sign up for the Partnering Bulletin and Fair. Each entry includes the professor’s name, course information, and their ideas for a virtual exchange project. All member campuses looking for partners are welcome to contribute their information.

The SUNY COIL Center then assembles all entries into a bulletin that is redistributed to the community (here is an example). Now instructors and coordinators can review and reach out to potential partners, and/or find a partner at one of our Partnering Fairs!

Monthly Introduction to COIL Webinar: Administrators, instructors, staff, and community members can learn about COIL, ask questions and get excited about doing COIL Virtual Exchange and joining the SUNY COIL Global Network Partner Community.

Community Webinars: Each month, we offer a webinar for the SUNY COIL Virtual Exchange community! The webinar focuses on one of the COIL Idea Hub topics: pedagogy, assessment, language and culture, and technology.

Coordinator Meetings provide an opportunity to connect with other COIL Coordinators around the world to hear updates, strategize your local COIL program, recruit and work with instructors, discuss issues, share successes and learn about new opportunities. Coordinator meetings take place the first Tuesday of the month at 10:00am ET and the first Wednesday of the month at 1:00pm ET.

Staff and faculty from your institution receive a 28% discount on seats in any SUNY COIL 3-week professional development workshop.

Receive a complementary 1-hour consultation with the Director of SUNY COIL and your institution’s COIL Coordinator or COIL team. Additional consulting is offered at a discount to our members.

Idea Hubs focus on how and where COIL Virtual Exchange works within 4 different areas: Technology, Critical Interculturality, Research, and Careers. Each Idea Hub meets once a month. There is an Idea Hub meeting every week on Fridays at 11am EST (except the 5th Fridays).

COIL Clinics allow instructors, coordinators, and other community members to get answers to their questions about implementing COIL. Clinics take place the 4th Wednesday of each month at 9:00am ET and 4:00pm ET. Come to these sessions as often as you would like!

Members gain access to sample COIL syllabi and examples of past COIL collaborations.

Every week, all coordinators receive updates and reminders to distribute locally on their campuses. These emails are full of upcoming virtual exchange opportunities — including conferences, presentations, research and grant opportunities — as well as upcoming event announcements, shout-outs, and timely articles and resources.
