Noor Ghazi

Noor Ghazi, an Iraqi-American peace activist based in the United States. Noor holds an MA in Peace and Conflict Studies with a focus on International Peace Development and a MA in Arabic Language and Culutres. She currently serves as professor of pratice with PWAD teaching courses that foucs on Conflict in Iraq’s Modern History. Noor’s extensive involvement as a visiting lecturer at Mosul University-Iraq has allowed her to dedicate significant time to various education peace projects, including a long documentary in Arabic/English “Mosul: The Mother of Two Springs” highlighting life under ISIS in Mosul. Followed by a short documentary “Peace Letters to Nineveh”. Noor actively fosters collaborative academic efforts and she is an active faculty member at UNC for The Collaborative Onlne International Learning, COIL.
“Growing up in Iraq during the 90s under Economic Sanctions restricted my access to quality education. Transitioning into a teaching role has been profoundly rewarding, especially when facilitating the Collaborative Online International Learning between my students and peers who have lived and studied under ISIS in Iraq. This exchange humanizes the conflict, transforming statistics into personal narratives, faces, and the real-life struggles of those people directly impacted by the conflict.”

Project Summary:
My course teaches about Conflict in Iraq’s Modern History. Part of this course is to touch on ISIS occupation in Iraq and the peopler who lived under ISIS in Mosul. That is when our partner organization and students come to talk about their lived experiences under ISIS, including the impact on the ancient artifacts, the change of education under ISIS and social life. Both sides will have a final presentation online by the end of the semester.
