Dr. Pearl is a scholar-practitioner specializing in Virtual Exchange (VE), international business, and globally engaged learning. For more than a decade, she has facilitated VE collaborations across 18 universities in 14 countries, helping students develop the intercultural, digital, and collaborative competencies needed for today’s global business environment. Drawing on her professional background in international business, she designs and manages applied VE projects that connect classroom learning with real-world global teamwork. Her research examines the impact of VE on student self-efficacy, resilience, well-being, intercultural competence, and career readiness. She contributed to Intercultural Competence through Virtual Exchange as a Tool in Achieving the SDGs (Springer Nature, 2025) and serves as Section Head for Business, Leadership, and Entrepreneurship in the forthcoming Handbook of Using Virtual Exchange Across Disciplines: Building Global Citizens from Home. Through the SUNY Ambassador Program, she seeks to advance inclusive, discipline-based global learning opportunities.
“COIL reminds us that global learning is not only about crossing borders; it is about expanding curiosity, humility, and confidence. The joy of COIL is watching students realize that disciplinary knowledge becomes more powerful when paired with intercultural awareness, collaboration, adaptability, and human connection. It challenges us as educators to design with intention, but it also rewards us by helping students build the holistic skillsets they need to work, lead, and contribute to an interconnected world.”
