Dr. Anuradhaa Shastri is a Professor at the Department of Educational Psychology, Counseling, and Special Education at The State University of New York, Oneonta (SUNY) Oneonta. Her scholarship and pedagogical practice are grounded in her teaching experience at SUNY Oneonta. Given that her academic preparation is a product of higher education systems in India and The United States, she feels indebted to make contributions to both of these learning communities. She has taught COIL- Enhanced courses since 2019 with partner universities in Colombia and India. Her Fulbright-Nehru grant work in Spring 2022 was centered on COIL. Her recent COIL presentations include the ones at SUNY General Education Conference (2026), Madonna Arts and Science College for Women, Madurai, India (2026), 3rd International Conference on Smart Learning, The Women University, Multan, Pakistan (2025), Fulbright Alumni Conference, Washington DC, U.S.A. (2024). She believes the COIL pedagogy enables her to highlight a global perspective in her classroom embodied in the Sanskrit phrase, “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”, which means “The World Is One Family”.
“For me, COIL provides innovative ways to connect my course content, classrooms & the world community. Here’s a student quote from the current semester that illustrates the impact of COIL:
‘I enjoyed this experience because the information I learned was based on real people and real experiences they had. This to me made this information more meaningful and interactive. Another part of this experience that I liked was that the course encouraged us to be open-minded and have good communication, which I feel is important for everyone to experience.’ “
