Sydney W. Craig
Indiana University Indianapolis, United States
Sydney Craig treats the classroom as artistic installation where students are mediums of imagination and innovation. She serves as Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the Foundation Studies Program and First-year Experience at Herron School of Art and Design, Indiana University Indianapolis, USA. With an MFA in Printmaking, she weaves her teaching and creative research by examining process as practice as she develops contemporary curricula for first-year students, emphasizing global mindsets and international collaboration through art and design projects. She is currently engaged in the third iteration of a Virtual Global Exchange initiative, 4000 Miles, with colleague Prof. Judith Glaser at the Technical University of Applied Sciences, Würzburg-Schweinfurt, Germany. Craig also partners in developing the project, Connecting Distances, with colleague Prof. Amrita Datta, and their research on involving art and design as multidisciplinary teaching tool within VGE has been presented at national and international conferences, such as IVEC, FATE, and UCDA.
“COIL projects give me hope; despite the challenges of a rappidly changing world, students and educators are finding sustainable ways to navigate the unknown together as they foster connections and develop empathy with people who are different than themselves but share the same goals.“
