
Melixa Abad-Izquierdo

Melixa is a native of Puerto Rico. Her bachelor’s is in Education from University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus. In 2011, Melixa earned a PhD in Latin American History from Stony Brook University (SUNY). Since 2010 she has been teaching history at Farmingdale State College. At FSC Melixa created courses about Latin American history and culture.

Project Summary: Students will be organized in groups and will have three or four weeks to interview each other. Some possible topics could be: comparing living in Long Island/Greater New York metropolitan area with living Greater Concepcion, Chile; musical trends in their respective places of origin; compare the experiences of movie watching, concerts; differences and similarities of youth culture. By the fourth week groups will be expected to design a poster, or a video where they compare their experiences. After this is completed students will submit your reflective essay.
