Bernadette Musetti
Loyola Marymount University, United States
I am an educator whose career has focused on teacher preparation, English as an Additional language, global and environmental issues, and the intersections of these. I work toward greater access, equity, and humanity in education. I love teaching and learning from and with students. In recent years I have included a specific focus on ecological literacy principles and practices in my all of courses. Over the past several years I have taken teacher preparation students on global immersion programs to study educational, environmental, and cultural issues in Costa Rica and Indonesia. I have had the professional privilege of engaging three different university courses in COIL partnerships with Sophia and Ochanomizu Universities in Tokyo, which has been a real highlight of my career!
“My students learned a great deal about education globally! They also developed cross-cultural communication skills and greater competence in this area, while learning with students who were communicating at a very high academic level in their non-primary language, which was impressive and humbling for many. I also really enjoyed collaborating with colleagues in Japan and developing wonderful professional relationships.”
