Veronique Martin
University at Albany, United States
Véronique Martin explores computer-assisted language learning (CALL), collaborative online learning environments, and telecollaboration for the development of intercultural communicative competence. She has been integrating COIL projects into her classes since 2008. Her dedication to innovative and student-centered teaching was recognized with the University at Albany President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2018.
In addition to teaching a range of undergraduate French courses, Véronique is actively involved in promoting French for specific purposes courses, in particular French for Business and French for International Relations. Each year, the French Studies program serves as an official testing center for the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and she administers the Diplôme de français professionnel A2.
In her role as French Liaison for the UAlbany in the High School (UHS) Program, she works with New York State high school teachers of advanced French and organizes an annual professional development teacher workshop.
“Engaging in COIL requires taking on multiple roles and navigating a range of challenges—across time zones, institutions, programs, and languages—but the depth of intercultural learning and connection it fosters makes every challenge worthwhile.”
