This page details the locations of the Global Center where the COIL Conference will be held, as well as the three conference hotels and useful subway stations for travelling between them and the normal arrival points in New York City.

Arrival Directions

Directions to the Verve Hotel from primary arrival points in NYC:

LaGuardia Airport: The Verve Hotel can be reached by a combination of a local bus and subway. From the front of each terminal catch an M60 bus to the “Astoria Blvd.” subway station. Then transfer to a Manhattan-bound Q or N subway train. Get off at the “39th Avenue” station (marked J on map). The total trip takes about 35 minutes and costs $2.25 total. Ask the bus driver for a subway transfer. Alternatively a taxi would take about 15 minutes and cost $17-20 plus tip.

JFK Airport: You can easily reach the Verve Hotel from JFK by subway. Take the JFK Airtrain from any terminal to “Jamaica Station.” Once there follow the signs to transfer to a Manhattan-bound E subway train and take it to the “Queens Plaza” station (marked I on the map). The trip should take 35-40 minutes and the cost would be $7.25 for the combined trip on the Airtrain and subway. Coming from JFK if you ride at the rear of the subway train, you will exit the train near the staircase that will take you directly to the entrance marked C on the map. The Verve is a short 5-minute walk from the Queens Plaza station. A taxi alternatively should take 25-35 minutes cost $30-35 plus tip.

Grand Central Terminal (MTA Metro-North Railroad): From the subway station attached to Grand Central, take a Queens-bound 7 subway train to the “Queensboro Plaza” station (just to the west of point I on map). The trip should take about 20 minutes and costs $2.25. Alternatively, a taxi should take 15-25 minutes and cost $13-17 plus tip.

Pennsylvania Station (Amtrak, New Jersey Transit): From the subway station attached to Penn Station, take a Queens-bound E subway train to the “Queens Plaza” station (marked I on map). If you ride at the front of the subway train, you will exit the train near a staircase that takes you directly to the entrance marked I on the map.  The trip should take about 20 minutes and costs $2.25. Alternatively, a taxi should take 20-30 minutes and cost $15-20 plus tip.

Port Authority Bus Station: From the subway station attached to the bus station, take a Queens-bound E subway train to the “Queens Plaza” station (marked I on map). If you ride at the front of the subway train, you will exit the train near the staircase that takes you directly to the entrance marked I on the map. The trip should take about 20 minutes and costs $2.25. Alternatively, a taxi should take 20-30 minutes and cost $15-20 plus tip.

Directions to the SUNY Global Center from primary arrival points in NYC:

LaGuardia Airport: The Global Center can be reached by a combination of a local bus and subway. From the front of each terminal catch an M60 bus to the “Astoria Blvd.” subway station. From there, transfer to a Manhattan-bound Q or N subway train. Get off at the “Lexington Avenue-59th Street” station (marked C on map). The total trip should take about 45 minutes and costs $2.25 total. Ask the bus driver for a transfer for the subway. Alternatively a taxi would take about 20-30 minutes and cost $25-30 plus tip and tolls.

JFK Airport: You can easily reach the Global Center directly from JFK by subway. The ride takes about 45 minutes and is not much slower than a taxi at many times. Take the JFK Airtrain from any terminal to “Jamaica Station.” Once there, follow the signs to transfer to a Manhattan-bound E subway train and take it to the “Lexington Avenue-53rd Street” station (marked B on map). The cost would be $7.25 for the combined trip on the Airtrain and subway. A taxi alternatively takes 30-60 minutes and is a flat rate of $45 plus tip and tolls.

Newark Airport: Airport shuttles provide service to Grand Central and Port Authority Bus Station, and New Jersey Transit provides train service into Pennsylvania station. For more details on service from the New Jersey Transit please visit http://www.njtransit.com.

Airport Ground Transportation: Airport groud transportation provides a quick and easy service to both the SUNY Global Center and your Hotel. Links for ground transportation from each airport is as follows; LaGuardia AirPort, JFK, Newark.

Grand Central Terminal: (Metro-North Railroad): The Global Center is a short taxi ride or .75-mile walk up Park Avenue.

Pennsylvania Station: (Amtrak, New Jersey Transit): From the subway station attached to Penn Station, take a Queens-bound E subway train to the “Lexington Avenue-53rd Street” station (marked B on map). The trip should take about 15 minutes and costs $2.25. Alternatively it is a short taxi ride or a 2.0 mile walk.

Directions from the Verve Hotel to the SUNY Global Center:

Directions from the Verve Hotel to the SUNY Global Center:
The SUNY Global Center (marked A above) can be easily reached by subway in 15-20 minutes from the Verve Hotel (H). The quickest route is to take a Manhattan-bound E subway line from the “Queens Plaza” station (I) to the second stop, “Lexington Avenue–53rd Street” station (B). Follow the signs to the Lexington Ave. exit. If you ride in the front of the train, when you exit the train you will be near a set of escalators that take you to the exit at the corner of Lexington Avenue and 53rd Street. The Global Center is a few blocks away at 116 East 55th St. between Lexington and Park Avenues. You can find detailed directions here. Alternatively you can take the N-train between points D and F. A taxi or car service between the locations should take 10-20 minutes and cost about $10-15 plus tip and can be arranged by the hotel staff.

Directions from the Conference Hotels to SUNY Global Center:

Manhattan Centre Hotel/Club Quarters: The SUNY Global Center (Marked A above) is less than a 10 minute walk from the Manhattan Centre Hotel/Club Quarters (D). The quickest route on foot is by heading southeast on West 51st Street toward Rockefeller Plaza (0.2mi). Turn left onto 5th Avenue and continue 4 blocks until you reach East 55th Street (0.2mi). Turn right onto East 55th street and head down two blocks, bypassing Madison Avenue and Park Avenue (0.2mi). The SUNY Global Center will be on the right side. Alternatively, a taxi can be taken from the Hotel for around $5-7 plus tip.

Helmsley Park Lane Hotel: The SUNY Global Center (Marked A above) is within walking distance from the Helmsley Park Lane Hotel (E). The quickest route on foot is by heading southeast on Central Park South toward Grand Army Plaza (0.1mi). Continue onto East 59th Street for two blocks, bypassing 5th Avenue and Madison Avenue (0.2mi). Turn right onto Park Avenue and head down 4 blocks until you reach East 55th street (0.2mi). Turn left onto East 55th street and SUNY Global Center will be on the right side. Alternatively, a taxi can be taken from the Hotel for around $5-7 plus tip.

Verve Hotel: The SUNY Global Center (marked A above) can be easily reached by subway in about 15-20 minutes from the Verve Hotel (H). The quickest route is to take a Manhattan-bound E subway line from the “Queens Plaza” station (I) to the second stop, “Lexington Avenue–53rd Street” station (B). Departure Directions

Directions to the primary departure points in NYC from the Verve Hotel:

LaGuardia Airport: LaGuardia can be reached by a combination of subway and a local bus. From the “39th Avenue” station (marked J on map) take an Astoria-Ditmars bound Q or N subway train to the “Astoria Blvd.” subway station. From the Southeast corner of Hoyt Avenue and 31st Street directly below the subway station catch an M60 bus to LaGuardia Airport. The bus stops at each terminal. The total trip takes about 35 minutes and costs $2.25 total. You can use your same Metrocard for a free transfer to the bus. Alternatively, the hotel can arrange a car service which would take about 15-20 minutes and cost $17-20 plus tip.

JFK Airport: You can easily reach JFK from the Verve Hotel by subway. From the “Queens Plaza” station (marked I on the map) take a Queens-bound E subway train to the “Sutphin Blvd. – JFK” station. Once there, follow the signs to transfer to the “JFK Airtrain” and take it to your airline’s terminal. The trip should take 35-40 minutes and the cost would be $7.25 for the combined trip on the Airtrain and subway. The Airtrain uses the same Metrocard system as the subway. Alternatively, the hotel can arrange a car service which should take 20-40 minutes cost $30-35 plus tip.
