Call for Presentations at 5th COIL Conference
5th COIL Conference: Can Globally Networked Learning Anchor Internationalization in the Curricular Mainstream?
We invite proposals that broadly support this year’s conference themes for presentations in a range of formats.
Joint proposals, including those that represent the collaboration of inter- or intra- departmental or institutional teams, those which are designed to foster significant audience participation, or panels which bring in student perspectives, are particularly encouraged.
This Year's Themes and Topics include:
- Student Perspectives and Voices from Globally Networked Learning Courses
- Role of GNL in Integrating Intercultural and/or Global Dimensions into the Curriculum
- GNL Courses as Portals for Increased Participation in Study Abroad
- How is Intercultural Exchange Transformed in the Online Environment?
- Outcomes from the COIL Institute for Globally Networked Learning in the Humanities
- GNL Moves Outside the Humanities: Examples from the STEM, Business and Applied Fields
- Is Globally Networked Learning the Beating Heart of Curricular Internationalization?
- Integrating Real-time Tools into Asynchronous International Courses
- Utilizing GNL and Technology to support Language Learning
- We’ve Taught the GNL Course, but My Institution Doesn’t Know What to do Next!
Possible presentation types include:
- Panels (30-60 minutes)
- Roundtable Discussion Panels (up to 60 minutes)
- Debates (30-60 minutes)
- Individual Presentations (20 minutes)
- Mini-Workshops (including ones focused on participant input around a topic, up to 60 minutes)
Note: Any session can be designed to include remote presenters via videoconference or other technologies. Be creative in proposing presentation formats, as alternative and innovative formats are highly encouraged.
Proposals should include the following information:
- Presentation Title (up to 15 words)*
- Type of session (e.g. panel or individual presentation)
- Proposed duration of session (see parameters, above)
- Name, email, and phone number of primary contact or session chairperson (questions and status of the proposal will be communicated to this person)
- Name, institutional/departmental affiliation, position, and a brief biography (up to 75 words) for each participant in the presentation*
- 50-75 word abstract of the session*
- 300-500 word description of the session, identifying what will be presented in the session, the target audience, and the delivery format
- 3 key points audience members will learn from the session
- Technology and audio/visual requirements, including time zone of any remote presenters
* This information will be used for the conference website, mailings and handouts if the proposal presentation is accepted. By submitting a proposal applicants agree to this information being used for such promotional materials for the conference.
All submissions must be received by submission deadline, February 8, 2013. Only complete proposals will be considered. Send all submissions electronically via email with the subject line "COIL Conference 2013 CFP submission," to COILConference@suny.edu.
Applicants will be notified of the status of their proposal application by the end of February.

Note: The COIL Conference session review committee will try to accommodate the session type, duration, and other requests for accepted presenters. However, if this is not possible, we may contact applicants to suggest alternatives prior to their proposal being accepted/rejected.
We also plan to again offer a live conference webcast and post a video archive to COIL’s website. This is to allow individuals around the world that may not be able to attend for geographic, political or financial reasons to benefit from the informative sessions at the event. Presenters will be asked to sign a consent and release form prior to their arrival at the conference.
