10th Anniversary COIL Conference
COILing Across a Decade: Reflections and New Directions
The 2016 COIL Conference was held at the CUNY Graduate Center in Manhattan and was again a great success! From April 25-26th, the SUNY COIL Center was excited to welcome nearly 400 faculty, staff and administrators from over 150 different institutions and organizations from 23 countries, including 30 SUNY campuses and over 100 attendees from outside the USA.
Highlights of this years’ conference included:
- An Opening Plenary that included Welcoming Remarks from Vita C. Rabinowitz, CUNY’s Executive Vice Chancellor and University Provost; Reflections from our Director Jon Rubin on the COIL Center's journey over the past decade; a Keynote Address from Doreen Starke-Meyerring, Associate Professor, McGill University (Canada); and a Panel Discussion entitled "What has changed, what have we learned and where do we go now? – An interaction with our audience". (see the archived Opening Plenary video here)
- A Day Two Plenary which included a Greeting from Nancy L. Zimpher, Chancellor, State University of New York; a Keynote Address from Susan Buck Sutton, Senior Advisor for International Initiatives, Bryn Mawr College; An Introduction to the Stevens Initiative by Henry Shepherd, Assistant Director of the J. Christopher Stevens Virtual Exchange Initiative, Aspen Institute; and a Panel Discussion entitled "Panel Discussion: Where is COIL practice going? What funders are supporting COIL and Virtual Exchange, and what higher education institutions are adopting the model?" (see the archived Day Two Plenary video here)
- Nearly 70 different presentations from practitioners around the world. We plan to have the video archive of all sessions posted later this spring. As a sneak preview you can already watch the unedited presentations from our live webcast at the following links:
We encourage you to also access the conference resources that have been uploaded and are accessible via our Monday & Tuesday Conference Agenda pages. Here you will find PowerPoint presentations from most of the sessions. A video archive of all conference sessions will be posted as soon as possible!
We are looking forward to seeing you at the 2017 COIL Conference.
