ACE and SUNY's COIL Center Announce Technology Awards to Enhance Internationalization and Global Competence
The American Council on Education (ACE) and the SUNY Center for Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) today announced the creation of an awards program to recognize and promote the use of technology to enhance institutional internationalization and global competence of students at U.S. colleges and universities. The awards, sponsored by Asahi Net International (ANI), highlight innovative programs and approaches in two categories:
- Leaders in Internationalization Through Technology, which will recognize established programs.
- Advancing Internationalization Through Collaborative Online International Learning, which will recognize and offer support for emerging initiatives.
ACE and COIL are conducting a national call for submissions from institutions until November 11, 2013. For more information about the award criteria and submission process, see the full award's page on the ACE website. We also have created a page on the COIL website with information on the award and an FAQ page.
“Allowing students to virtually experience higher education abroad without leaving campus is a deeply innovative concept that is taking shape and putting down roots across the U.S. and internationally,” said SUNY’s Chancellor Nancy Zimpher. “The increasing popularity of new media and other online technologies, coupled with a challenging economy that may limit the affordability of travel abroad, has sparked great interest in COIL, which provides a viable alternative for students who want to engage the world and experience international learning.”
“Innovations in technology provide exciting opportunities for bringing global learning to our increasingly diverse student population and can help spur institutional internationalization,” said Patti McGill Peterson, ACE’s Presidential Advisor for Global Initiatives.
“We are thrilled to be part of this innovative award program that empowers higher education institutions’ globalization efforts,” said Takashi (Take) Takekawa, president and CEO of Asahi Net International. “We believe that internationalization of educational institutions is one of the most pressing and crucial needs in the society, and we feel honored to take part in such an important initiative.”
